November 12: Ultreya & Secretariat meeting

Mark your calendars for November 12 for the next Ultreya at 5 PM at the Tiskilwa Bible Church at 235 W Main St., Tiskilwa, IL. 61368.

The meal will start around 5 PM with worship following.  As you ponder what  delicious dish you will share,  please be inviting, and reminding your reunion group, and the people you have sponsored to come with you! Let’s pack the house!

The Way of Christ Secretariat will meet ahead of this Ultreya at 2:00PM at the church.

All Secretariat members and their committee members are encouraged be present along with Way of Christ community to offer insight and inspiration as we look ahead to the possibilities and plan how the Spring 2023 weekends might look.

Spring 2022 Weekend is cancelled

Illinois Way of Christ Secretariat met on November 13 at the Lanark Church of the Brethren before the Ultreya and gave the go ahead on the Women’s Weekend for March 10-13 with Nina Henkins leading this event as Rector.

Mid-December Nina prayerfully reconsidered this commitment; looking at team member responsibilities, the overall health concerns of the pandemic, the questions of such an intimidate gathering, and felt God leading her to not to serve as rector for the weekend.

In light of this leading for Nina and the Secretariat and the place we find ourselves as a Way of Christ movement, the Spring 2022 Women’s Weekend is cancelled.

The Secretariat will be meeting sometime in near future to seek God’s leading and explore how God would have us move forward with this equipping effort.

If you have questions contact someone on the Secretariat.

Ultreya and Secretariat

November 13, 2021 – Lanark Church of the Brethren

Fall Ultreya and Secretariat meeting update

Lanark Church of the Brethren, 326 South High Street, Lanark, Illinois 61046;  the corner of Pearl and High Streets.

This gathering; the fellowship, soup supper, and worship is a time to continue to be an encouragement to each other in our journey of faith, be nurtured in God’s purpose in the everyday, and to seek God’s guidance for the day’s before us.

The soup for this meal will be provided by the hosts.  It will be served at 5PM. If you can can not make it by 5, come as soon thereafter as you can.  (We will keep the soup warm for you.) If you want to bring something for dessert to share in single serving units, that would be great.

This gathering begins with a fellowship meal and is followed by singing, worship, communion, and sharing by some who will tell of their ongoing journey of faith in Christ.

This worship time will include the anointing and praying up the Spring Weekend rectors for the March 2022 weekends at Camp Menno Haven.

Bring family and friends, and those that have not yet been involved in a Cursillo Weekend, but might be interested or ready for such spiritual equipping.

The Secretariat will be meetings at 2:30 before the Ultreya, so come and have a part in the deciding and workings of the coming weekends and the workings of this movement.  Pray too about your talents and the possibilities of serving on the Secretariat in a role that helps make this movement possible.

Contact Lori, Ed, Ann, Ron, Deb, Eric, Marcia, Richard, Gary, Carl, Connie, Lynda, or Dan if you have questions or want to help.

2 Timothy 3:14-17 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Ultreya – September 11

It has been nearly a year and an half since since the Way of Christ community has gathered (if I have remembered correctly).

So I am looking forward to seeing my Way brothers and sister. I hope you are too.

Saturday, 5PM at the Lanark Church of the Brethren, 326 South High Street, Lanark.

Follow the signs.

Secretariat at 2:30PM.

2 Corinthians 5:16-18 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.

Prayer requests

As you seek to grow in your response to Christ’s leading, there are opportunities for such growth through the Way of Christ weekends.  Pray about your participation in the three days of instruction and encouragement and accountability that will help you in your ongoing growth of faith.

Pray for God’s leading and guidance as this Way of Christ movement prepares for the September 11th Ultreya at the Lanark Church of the Brethren and the Spring 2022 weekends

Several positions on the Secretariat are open now for new leadership.  If you have attended a weekend and are feeling God’s nudge to help equip others, pray about serving in this leadership role where weekends are organized through pray, discernment, and hard work.  Contact a Secretariat member to explore this possibility for service.

Secretariat meeting June 19

The Secretariat of the Illinois Way of Christ met online Saturday, June 19.

We are looking forward to an Ultreya on September 11 and a set of weekends in the spring of 2022.

This gathering was an open meeting for everyone who has been a participant in the Illinois Way of Christ weekend or any other Cursillo type movement.

The agenda for that meeting was a look at where we are as we prepare for the coming weekends in this effort to equip believers in their living faith.

As you look for a way to grow in your walk with Christ and help others to do the same, what might you do?

8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” –Ephesians 2:8-10

There are opportunities to serve both on the Secretariat and on the coming weekends.

Christ’s call to purpose

Christ has a calling on each believer and seeks to equip each one for a unique and specific task in the eternal work of God. As your grasp of this blessing comes to focus, your need for the wisdom of heaven is vital for this significant purpose as it is to be lived in concert with Christ and other believers.

So where does this insight and guidance come from? How does it take shape in our world, our community, our Churches?

James writing to the believers scattered by persecution tells us in 4:17-18: But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.”

Fellowship and study, growth and purpose, encouragement and care shape the transformed heart giving purpose to every act of one’s life in Christ.

Living sacrifice

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:1-2
